Artrageous Creative Studio helps at the KC IrishFest 2009!
In our 2nd year with KCIF over 35 (32% more then 2008) of "Miss Julie's" Artrageous Art students volunteered to help! Over 11,000 children attended this past Labor Day weekend and ARTrageous artists were there to bring out the Irish artists in them!

This year's theme: Fairies and pirates!!
KCIF from 2008:

This year's theme for the Children's Activities was:
"How the Irish brought Halloween to America."
So Miss Julie said, "Then we'll make:
Irish Step-Dancing Jack-O-Lanterns!!"
(...or any variations there of...)
Did you know Jack O'Lantern was a real Irishman? But he wasn't necessarily a good Irishman. If fact he was very scared that the Devil would come and get him on October 31st. So to scare hi m off, he got a big turnip, dug it out and carved a very SCAREY face in it. Then he put a hot coal from the stove inside and placed it in front of his door so as to scare off that devil. Well, the devil never came that night and soon the rest of the town was joining in his strategy. They called the turnip their "Jack o'Lanterns."
When the potato famine forced many to migrate to America, the Irish people soon realized there were NO turnip in America! So what do you think they used instead of turnips?
